Sasha Štěpánová is an attorney with Kocián Šolc Balaštík (KSB), in Prague, the Czech Republic. Her practice is focused on advising incoming international investors in the Czech Republic, particularly in the fields of new business establishment and business immigration and employment requirements for entrepreneurs, managers, employees and their dependents. Educated and also legally qualified in Australia and the UK, Ms. Štěpánová is registered as an EU advocate with the Czech Bar Association and has been based in Prague since 1994, advising a broad range of international corporations and investors on investment requirements in the evolving Czech market.
Founded in 1990, Kocián Šolc Balaštík (KSB) is one of the largest law firms in the Czech Republic. Based in Prague and with almost seventy legal and tax advisers, it is well placed to provide comprehensive legal and tax advice to domestic and foreign clients. Since its inception, KSB has carved out a reputation as a successful and independent law firm, fully able to compete with international law firms. KSB has been repeatedly awarded Law Firm of the Year in the Czech Republic by independent and highly prestigious rating agencies Who’s Who Legal and Chambers and Partners.

Our aim is to obtain the fullest possible understanding of the client’s business so that we can identify the best legal- and tax-effective solutions to achieve the client’s business plans. KSB puts strong emphasis on professional ethics and building long-term relationships with clients based on mutual confidence and respect. We understand the importance for the client of taking the right decision at the right time and we monitor legislative amendments right from the drafting stage. We also take part in drafting laws and regulations – as well as in the legislative process itself – through a partner’s membership of the Government Legislative Council.

Many of KSB’s lawyers and tax advisers are acknowledged leaders in their area of expertise and are able to form a closely-integrated team capable of responding swiftly to clients’ needs. Several are qualified in other fields, allowing KSB to focus on practice areas where legal knowledge alone may be insufficient. Many have studied or practiced in other countries and all speak fluent English or German while others communicate in other languages). KSB’s advocates are qualified to advise on Czech and European law; some are also qualified to advise on the law of other jurisdictions such as England and Germany.

KSB’s activities extend far beyond the commercial sphere. The firm strongly believes that lawyers have a role to play in society and the professional community, in upholding human rights and promoting the rule of law. Membership by KSB’s partners of the International Bar Association, as well as other Czech and international organisations, reflects this belief. We recognise the importance of the further development of the law in the Czech Republic and actively take part in the creation of new laws and regulations. Many of KSB’s advocates also lecture at Czech universities, conferences and seminars at home and abroad.

KSB’s involvement in international transactions has created many personal contacts over the years and contributed to excellent working relationships with major law firms all over the world. The firm works closely with many reputable law firms in the CEE region and elsewhere on complex regional and global transactions. We believe that the experience we have gained working for clients is of greater value in the provision of top-quality services than formal membership of an international firm. When working in conjunction with foreign law firms and consultancy companies, we emphasise the preservation of our independence.
